The Kite Runner Movie Review

Guest Author - Debra Conrad

The Kite RunnerThe Kite Runner - the movie - review. I have to admit... I never heard of the book... The Kite Runner, so when I was offered complimentary tickets to the Kite Runner movie preview, I was skeptical about the content.

Having never attended a movie preview, I was more excited about viewing a movie that most had not seen before. And... the star actor Kahlid Abdulla was in attandance and graciously answered every question the audience had.

This movie is an emotional story about friendship, family, mistakes made that cause devastating results and how love can overcome all.

A film of this type is not for action packed film lovers or a date movie. My husband loves to go to theaters to watch action films and I am a big fan of date night movies... which might be a deterrent to most movie goers. But... and I can emphasis this enough, you should see this movie... more than once.

I Loved this movie!

When I first started viewing Kite Runner I was uncomfortable with subtitles, but within a few minutes the subtitles were of no consequence; I didn't even notice them.

The story takes place in a divided country on the verge of war - Afghanistan. Now you can get a visual picture (in your minds eye), of the way things were in this torn country, before the wars. Seeing their world through stories of family life during times of richness and poverty... and the reasoning for decisions made, is not very different than in any other part of the world. How those decisions affect the lives of these family members has just as much ramifications as any family dynamics... in any time period.(The movie portrays Afghanistan in the 1980's)

As a mother of two boys... this film caught my attention right away. The two main characters are two boys... that act as brothers in most aspects of their lives. I thought from start of the movie... that I would see the love and strife that most brothers have for each other. But... the movie shows a dynamic between these two boys that is not often seen in families. Good vs. Evil... and Rich vs. Poor acting as dividing points in these young boys. Well... you just have to see it to understand.

I am certain many parents will drag their “teenage” (this movie is not for young children) kids to this movie as it has many great moral messages.

Oh... and if any of you that know me personally want to know if I cried... Yes, but it was only a 2 hanky movie. This is a type of rating system my friends and I use. :)

If you can't see the movie... I highly recommend getting the book. It should be on your bookshelf to read more than once.
