Warfield's Restaurant, Clifton Springs, NY
Guest Author - Brenda Potter Reynolds

My husband and I arrived in Clifton Springs a little early, so we walked around a bit. While exploring downtown, we happened on a beautiful little garden. There was a cute little pond with goldfish, a fountain, beautiful stonework and lots of flowers.

It was a nice surprise - this peaceful place in the middle of the village. We got another surprise as we left - right next door was Warfields Restaurant and Bakery, the very place we were heading to for lunch. And the beautiful garden belonged to the restaurant!

Inside, classical music played softly. The restaurant is housed in a historic building and the dining room had brick walls with oak accents.

I had heard many good things about Warfields. One person raved about their salads, while another loved the homemade desserts. The restaurant is known for their "elegant country fare" and the menu lives up to its reputation.

Lunch menu items included Open Faced Grilled Chicken Breast Pepperonata and Chicken Scaloppini. Even conventional menu items like Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are something special - just look at the description: Tillamook Cheddar, Gruyere, Diced Tomatoes, Scallions, Grainy Mustard, Home Made Bread. I ordered a "plain old" cheeseburger with french fries that was just awesome. My husband had the same thing - he gave it a five out of five rating.

Theres a lounge in the back that was remodeled ten years ago. Its a warm, well-lit room with oak woodwork and a fireplace. Warfields has an extensive wine list, and was a recipient of Wine Spectators Award of Excellence in 2007.

Warfields is the kind of place that makes you want to linger over your meal. I have to mention the staff - everyone was friendly and professional. When we were finally ready to leave, we took a variety of their homemade cookies with us. They were just as delicious as our meal was and a nice reminder - while they lasted - of our visit to Warfields.
