Great Cookbook Collection Displays

Many a great cookbook collection has been destroyed by moisture in the kitchen. Storing your cookbooks on the counter is just inviting a spill (by Murphy's law)

If you're collecting cookbooks, you might want to consider storing a couple of hem on a wrought iron display rack. These racks often have a raised wire in the front to hold the pages open and off of the counter, for practical purposes. Thumbing through the pages while you're cooking can be messy.

An entire collection won't fit on a little cookbook rack, but when you're not actually cooking with a cookbook and using the rack, you can keep a pretty cookbook on display, at any delectable page or with the front cover showing.

If you have a dining room china cabinet or buffet, they're great for showing off a collection. Display a cookbook behind or instead of a few of the plates or serving dishes.

A small shelf that runs the length of your kitchen or dining room is also a good place to display your cookbook collection. You can use vintage appliances as book ends, and you can stand a sturdy book with a pretty cover image facing forward to give the display a little style.

Wire plate hangers can also be used to display a book, not all cookbooks in your collection will fit nicely in a wire plate hanger, but it's worth considering, because it keeps the books very handy.

If you have a set of particularly decorative cookbooks, you might want to consider hanging them in an arrangement in your dining room. Experiment with different configurations before you hang them up, and consider the colors on the cover image.

Vintage cook books make great framed art. If you have one that's falling apart or thin enough to frame, take it into the frame shop and have it matted and sealed for framing. You could even make color photocopies of the images for framing so you don't damage the original. (Check copyright rules)

Avoid displaying vintage prints in direct sunlight, because the colors can fade away.

Try displaying your cookbook collection in your kitchen and or dining room. The images are often beautiful and keeping them visible reminds you to use them more often. Bon Apetit.
