The trouble with some shows is they just aren’t believable. Yeah, you watch them because they make you laugh – and dream a little – but you know in real life these things will never happen.
For instance, there is not a chance that a coffee house barista and a fledgling chef can live in a glamorous apartment in the trendy part of New York city (yes, I’m thinking about you Monica and Rachel). A musician is not going to get married, have twins, and be content to live in his brother-in-law’s attic just to appease his 6-year-old niece (Uncle Jesse).
These and countless other scenarios just wouldn’t happen in reality. With that in mind, Suave, Sprint, and MindShare Entertainment have partnered together to bring a little reality to sitcoms.
“In the Motherhood” is an internet sitcom that explores the plight of mothers. The show features stories from real moms. An added bonus is that the writers encourage every one to participate share their experiences.
Professional writers create topics that they want to use for the show. Then the public is invited to submit stories through the show’s Web site. People can then read the stories and vote online for their favorites. The winning stories are then used in future episodes.
“Motherhood” stars comedienne Chelsea Handler as single mom Heather. She is far from perfect, but seems to be comfortable with that. Her best friend is Kim, played by Leah Remini. Kim is married, but lately her husband refers to her as “buddy” and she is starting to feel like an old pal, and not a hot wife.
Starting this season, Jenny McCarthy joined the cast as Kelly, Heather’s perfect sister. You know the type – her kids are perfect, and you are doing everything all wrong.
Season Two began February 7, after a highly successful freshman year. The Web series averaged 5.5 million viewers, and with the new addition to the cast, that number will probably rise.
The show is funny and fresh, but any mom can relate to the plot. Another plus, the show is broken down into small segments, which works well as moms usually only have four or five minutes at a time.
