My Bag and Me Book Review
Guest Author - Diane Claus

My Bag and Me, by Karen Farmer and illustrated by Gary Currant, is written about a little boy and his reusable shopping bag. The story follows the little boy who takes his bag and reminds his mother to take hers, on a shopping trip. At the store the little boy explains to other shoppers about why he has his bag.

My son and I both enjoyed the story because it was fun, yet short and to the point. The book is written on a level perfect for preschoolers and young children. It does not overwhelm preschoolers with information and no solutions. Instead, it focuses on one topic and provides a clear solution that can implemented immediately.

The bag that comes with the book is made from Tyvek with an “I Love Earth” logo on it and is recyclable. The only problem is finding a place that will take Tyvek. I had to get online and Google it to see where I could take anything made from Tyvek in my area. My only real criticism is that the book itself is not made from recycled material. While most preschoolers may not have the understanding that books can be made from recycled materials I would have preferred to purchase a book made from post consumer materials.

This book is a wonderful compliment to Earth Day activities because is shows children how they can make a difference and with the included bag they can put that knowledge into practice right away. My Bag and Me is a great starting place for going green.
