Plus Size Garters - Debbie Holmes

When I was married, I purchased my garter from the bridal shop where I bought my "special order" dress. In those days (a whole twelve years ago) they didn't carry plus sizes, let alone size eighteens, in the boutiques. The garter was just big enough to slide over the bump of my knee and I definitely didn't have to worry about it moving around.

Today, there are more choices and venues for wedding dresses (and bridesmaid dresses) available but the garter situation hasn't really improved as much. In walks Debbie Holmes a seamstress who runs her own business through eBay (Trent Valley Mercantile).

Debbie, 42, was by profession a social worker who managed a community center in her hometown of Frankford, Ontario. When, like many professionals, her hours were reduced she needed to find something else. At the time she left to work with her husband. On the side she began her using the skills she learnt from her mother when she was twelves years old to make some spending money. Before she knew it, she had her own business and her husband was joining her at Sidney Holmes.

Debbie used her twenty-five years of experience to make wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses. She even made all the dresses for her own wedding. One day she realized that she was wasting a lot of lovely fabric and notions. She began piecing them together to design ring pillows and flower baskets and finally wedding garters.

Debbie accommodates plus sizes both in wedding dresses and the garters she creates. She tells me she can make them to fit any leg size simply by receiving measurements by email. She also carries ready made garters in regular and plus sizes.

The garters Debbie custom makes are available in white, ivory and black. Accent colors include blue, pink, fuchsia, orange, brown, yellow, navy blue, apple red and much more. The garters are available for $8.98 US (regardless of the size needed) and includes two garters, one to keep and one to be thrown. Shipping costs for the garters is $3.75 to the United States or Canada. It takes 1 - 3 weeks for the garters to arrive depending on destination.

There you go, one less thing to worry about on your wedding day!

Visit Debbie Holmes eBay store for plus size garters and more.
