The Complete Idiot’s Guide to eBay - Review

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to eBay by Lissa McGrath and Skip McGrath is a great beginner’s guide as well as a refresher course or update for seasoned eBayers. EBay is a great way to start or expand your small or home-based business, and this handy guide will simplify the process for you.

EBay is not just for iconic grilled cheese sandwiches. Many artists, crafters, resellers, wholesalers, and even retail store owners sell products there every day. It is possible to run a profitable business selling only on eBay. (Even if you run that business at home in your pj’s.)

Many people are afraid of eBay because they don't understand it. This book can ease those fears. The McGrath's take newbies step by step through the processes of getting started in both buying and selling on eBay. Plenty of screen shots and examples make seemingly complex info easier to digest. You will find tons of information here, including how to search on eBay, what acronyms like NIB (new in box) mean, how to leave feedback, how to set up an auction and ship your items, and much more.

The great thing about this book is that it includes both buying and selling on eBay and actually starts with buying. It's a great way to learn the system, build up a little feedback and then ease into the money-making side. You can read just the buyers' sections and use eBay as your bargain-hunting ground, or read the whole thing and scour your attic, neighborhood and hobby room for items to sell. Odds are you will eventually want to do both, and that makes this book a keeper.

Members of my family often check eBay for items before we shop offline, and several of us make additional money selling there. One runs a home-based business and makes most of his sales through eBay.

Many of the fears surrounding eBay and e-commerce in general involve scams and fraud. This book cover those issues and other security questions thoroughly, too and while there is no guarantee, education and a healthy dose of caution will certainly help beginners feel more comfortable. Media hype and urban legends can make online selling seem like a snake pit of cons and a surefire way to lose your shirt. It’s actually safer than that, but you do need to be aware of phishing and other common frauds.

Whatever you hope to gain from eBay, you will find detailed instructions on how to do so in this book. With “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to eBay”, you will actually be buying and selling online in no time at all. And, in a few weeks, this book and a bit of practice can level the playing field, quickly making you an expert.

eBay and other online auction sites can be quite helpful to home businesses, small businesses or to individuals who need a little extra money. This book can help you learn the ropes in an easy-to-comprehend manner.
