Honeymoon Survivor Style

Honeymoon Survivor Style
Adventuresome couples looking for an exotic, off-the-beaten-path destinations for their honeymoon might want to consider some of the Survivor film locations.

For those who don't watch the CBS reality TV show, up to 18 Americans are dropped off in the jungle or on the beach in a remote worldwide locale to fend for themselves. They're split into teams, going up against one another in different "challenges." Each week, one player is voted off, until the last standing wins $1 million. This show has been going on for 17 seasons!

Here's a peek at where Survivor has taken place:

1. Borneo, Malaysia
2. Australian Outback
3. Kenya, Africa
<4. Marquesas, French Polynesia
5. Tarutao, Thailand
6. The Amazon, Brazil
7. Pearl Islands, Panama
8. Pearl Islands, Panama (All-Stars Show)
9. Vanuatu, an island nation in the South Pacific
10. Palau, Micronesia
11. Guatemala
12. Exile Island, Panama
13. Cook Islands in the South Pacific
14. Fiji
15. China
16. Palau, Micronesia
17. Gabon, Africa

Personally, I'm intrigued by the locations in the South Pacific. A honeymoon on remote islands -- Marquesas, Vanuatu, Palau, Cook Islands, Fiji -- would combine your loll-on-the-beach location with exotic culture and some great outdoor activity.

For example, Palau is known for its world-class scuba diving, with its crystal-clear water, wreck dive excursions and more than 1,400 species of fish and 500 species of coral. Comprised of 586 (!) islands to explore, Palau offers a myriad of opportunities to kayak, snorkel, hike, fish and jeep. Paddle a "kabekel," a traditional Palauan canoe or go on a jungle river boat cruise. Investigate such spots as Jelly Fish Lake, Rock Islands or Ngatpang Waterfalls.

Palau Destination Wedding, Dolphins Optional

If you'd like to get married on Palau, consider a package from the five-star, luxury Palau Pacific Resort. The most basic starts at $1,000 and includes a marriage license, judge, flower leis, headdresses (mwarmwar), bouquets and corsages, set up and decorations, small cake for the couple and a bottle of champagne for toasting.

But if you and your fiance are truly adventurous, why not get blessed by dolphins during your wedding ceremony? After all, dolphins, according to the folks at Dolphins Pacific, symbolize "smooth sailing"! The Dolphin Ocean Blessing ceremony takes place at a remote location, Emerald Lagoon, and includes
a private ceremony; decorated boat transportation to and from Dolphin Bay; round trip land transportation from Palau Pacific Resort to venue; ceremony officiated by a judge; headdress, lei & bouquet; red carpet and flower and candle arrangements; hair and makeup by Palau Pacific Resort; photography (CD & album) at ceremony; special coconut Champagne welcoming drink; and dolphin activity at Dolphins Pacific for couple to enjoy (good for up to one year).
