Making It Big

Looking for natural fiber clothing? Can't seem to find a size large enough to handle your curves? Making It Big pride themselves in providing natural fiber clothing in their own designs for large and supersize women. The majority of their products are made in the United States while imported items are only ordered from "socially responsible companies". They have been in business for twenty four years and the corporate office is located in Catati, California (south of Santa Rosa) where they opened a showroom in July of 2008.

Selection: They have an impressive selection of tops, shirts, tees, bras, panties, pants, dresses, swimwear, and accessories. You will find casual, career and a few formal items.

Sizing: Making it Big offers women's plus size clothing in sizes 2X - 8X or sizes 22 - 48 (not everything comes in 8X). They have instituted a letter system, E - L, to replace the traditional numbering.

Styling: Making It Big's styles are mature and conservative. Appropriate for women age 30 and up or younger women who are not trying to be Hollywood pop stars.

Pricing: Regular priced tops start at $39.99 all the way up to $89 for the more extravagant ones.

Availability: Shipping in the United States starts at $6 and goes up to $18. Making It Big will ship internationally using UPS but you can request another method. To find out international shipping you need to email them for a quote.

Overall Impression: The website is well laid out and easy to find selected styles to view at a glance. I love how their clothing sizes start at 2X but I find their system of using the alphabet a bit confusing and unnecessary since most plus size people are familiar with the X system already. The clothing styles are fabulous. It was very nice to see supersize clothing that wasn't all boxy and unflattering; although that is still an option. They offer choices which are important. As for international shipping, I consider it inconvenient to have to email for a quote; especially for Canadians who live so close. At the very least, Canadian shipping should be listed. But it is nice they are willing to use an alternative to UPS which charges exorbitant prices. They have a fun section where you can get to know each of their models who are active career women and mothers. Like most companies they offer the opportunity to sign up for email news on special promotions.
