T Broussard at the German Club

T Broussard at the German Club
Someone needs to bottle T Broussard's energy during one of his shows. I'd bet he'd generate enough power to fuel 10 trips to New England from LA. High energy ++ is what you can expect. He gives 110% to each and every one of his shows. I once saw T give his all to a tiny audience of three at a farm festival. Clearly, he comes alive on stage and each and every fan is important enough to him to give them his best.

The energy at the German Club in Pawtucket, RI was no exception. This band keeps getting better and better. T has surrounded himself with some mighty fine musicians and he, himself, has matured vocally and musically. The band was tight and the sound was right on. What an infections groove!

During the 3 hour performance, T did a mix of traditional, older tunes from his previous CDs, and some new ones from his new CD release, Super T. T remains true to his Zydeco roots but his style and arrangements are fresh. His new work is progressive and the traditional tunes offer updated arrangements unique to Ts sound. Yet, that unmistakable Zydeco syncopated beat remains in firmly in place.

The German Club had a good turnout with an enthusiastic mix of New England's dance community with folk coming from RI, Boston, and CT. Not only that, the dance floor was filled all night long from 9:00pm to midnight. The crowd thinned some after the short break but not as much as usual, a good indicator that the dancer's pumps were primed for more of T's energy right to the very end.

From the 1st time I saw T-Broussard play, he captured my Zydeco heart. What excites me so much is his energy and unwavering sense of rhythm and beat. Some said "too fast", but, in my opinion, he was right on beat, so with smaller steps on the faster tunes, it was easily danceable because his rhythm is precise.

We hadn't seen T in a couple of years and OMG he was simply terrific! I was on the dance floor ALL night long and loving every minute of it. T remains on the top of my favorites list of Zydeco icons. Something about the way he grooves with that syncopated beat that just touches my soul. He has such great rhythm! Wish he was up here more!
