Tune into The Alzheimer’s Project on HBO

In May a four-part TV series on Alzheimer’s disease called “The Alzheimer’s Project” will air. The HBO series will examine groundbreaking Alzheimer discoveries made by the country’s leading scientists and the effects this debilitating terminal disease has on those afflicted with Alzheimer’s which includes their families. This series has been propelled by Maria Shriver whose father has been afflicted with Alzheimer’s for the past six years. What will you take away from this series? The honest perspective of various people who have the disease; treatments that have failed; the caregivers who are increasing in number and face many daily challenges; the children who have many questions and different impressions of the disease; the fear of contracting the disease; ongoing promising scientific research.

If no one in your family is afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease, then you are fortunate. However, the country will be burdened with the ever-increasing number of diagnosed cases of this dread disease –physically, emotionally and financially. Make it your business to understand the disease mechanism, the emotional cost and what to do to help prevent it from happening to you.
Here’s the HBO schedule:

Sunday, May 10 at 9 p.m. EST – “The Memory Loss Tapes”

“The Memory Loss Tapes” takes an intimate look at seven individuals living with Alzheimer’s. Here are the internal, individual feelings and coping skills from the point of view of the person with Alzheimer’s disease.

Monday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST – “Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am? With Maria Shriver”

“Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am? With Maria Shriver” is geared toward children and teens trying to navigate their feelings about a grandparent’s illness, and presents “vignettes” that can help a child cope with a family member’s Alzheimer’s.

“Momentum in Science” is a two-part, exploratory research trip inside the laboratories and clinics of 25 leading physicians, revealing the latest Alzheimer discoveries.

Tuesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST – “Caregivers” and “Momentum in Science, Part 2”

“Caregivers” is a collection of five family portraits that illustrate caring for the different stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The evening concludes with “Momentum in Science, Part 2.”

After you view the series, please send me an email to let me know your thoughts and what interested you most.
