An option for self care not often considered after divorce that is gaining in popularity and close to my heart is Life Coaching or Relationship Coaching. You can get very specific when you hire a coach. You can find a Divorce Recovery Coach or coaches to guide you through your divorce if you're still in the process. There are also parenting coaches, specializing in single parenting or parenting with an ex who happens to be a jerk, or an ex you get along with, whatever you need in coaching, you can find it.
Coaching is different from counseling. Counseling often will focus on past behavior to determine and change future behavior while coaching focuses on the goal – the end result. For instance, if you see a Relationship Coach and your goal is to make your marriage work, the coach will determine how committed you each are in that goal, then create steps and systems that if you follow can help you reach that goal.
If you seek a coach for divorce recovery, your coach will focus on exactly that recovery. A coach will help you with issues relating to divorce recovery such as: Parenting, Anger Control, Financial Issues, Self Improvement, Dating and more. A coach will not focus on anything but what you can do to to change to make your situation better because a coach knows, you cannot control anyone but number one, and will advise you with that in mind.
A Divorce Recovery Coach can help you get to that next level so that you will be completely over your divorce and living a full life no matter what the reasons were that you got a divorce.
A good coach will re-access progress as you go along changing focus when needed. Coaching is not usually long term. It is usually for a specific period of time with one specific goal in mind. Therefore you might have to purchase blocks of coaching for each given issue.
It can work for many facets of life, and I highly recommend using a coach when you are stuck in any aspect of your life, be it relationships, parenting, career or any area of your life where you need an extra boost. I especially see benefit to Life Coaching during the Divorce Recovery process.
You can find coaches by going to the International Coach Federation, or the International Association of Coaches and right here on BellaOnline at our life coaching site: Life Coaching Site
