Maureen A. Taylor, PhotoDetective

Maureen Taylor is the author of Uncovering Your Ancestry Through Family Photographs. Through Photo Detective, she's dedicated to helping those who share her infatuation with discovering the stories behind images of the past. She has been featured in many articles such as American Spirit, Family Tree Magazine, and Ancestry Magazine.

On her blog she writes, “I’ve been in love with photography for as long as I can remember. Started studying pictures as a toddler and had my first camera in second grade. In high school I was a member of an after school photo group (there were only four of us) and spent a lot of picture research....you name it I've been involved in it.”

I learned of Maureen A. Taylor when I signed up for one of her webinars on “Saving Your Family Treasures” through Ancestry.com. Maureen writes two blogs on Photography:
Her recent Photodetective blogs discuss Prints from Slides, VoiceQuilts, Photo Reunions, and scanning and much more. Recently, she blogged about her photo favorites and about cars in family photos on Familytreemagazine.

Maureen Taylor has the following on Roots Television:

  • Our Country: the Photo Detective pays tribute to Old Glory just in time for the Fourth of July.

  • The Photo Detective talks with Dick Eastman about her recent appearance on the Today Show, an article about her in the Wall Street Journal, and her upcoming History Channel series, The Photo Detective.

  • Solved by the Photo Detective: The Photo Detective leads you through three photo identification examples, showing what you can learn from your family photographs.

She has also branched out and created a Photo Detective YouTube channel for her videos. Some of her topics are

  • Mother’s Day Tribute

  • What’s That Picture

  • Indiana Historical Society

  • Who Do You Think You Are? Live London

  • Civil War Veterans at Mount Vernon

Some of Maureen Taylor’s books that might prove useful to you are below or at her Photo Detective Bookstore.
