After Jessica Svoboda earned an associates degree in apparel manufacturing she stepped into the world of plus size fashion design. Being curvy herself it was easy for her to see where the industry was lacking and develop her own niche. In 2004 she launched Svoboda in Santa Ana, California. Svoboda releases a new collection each year but they are best known for their well made denim jeans that are cut and styled differently from what the plus size consumer has had to put up with the last thirty years. Svoboda designs are available online, from some boutiques (both walk in and online) and from department stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Saks.
Selection: At the moment of this write up the selection is limited to sixteen styles of denim, seven tops and some wire jewelry.
Sizing: In general Svoboda's denim accentuates the curves of women sizes 10 - 24. I found one that went up to size 28 and another that went to 22.
Styling: When it comes to the denim Svoboda has flattering lines, unique cuts and consistent washes. If you are into brightly colored jeans they have those too.
Pricing: Svoboda's denim prices falls into the mid-line boutique bracket ranging from $128 to $168 depending on the style.
Availability: There is very little shipping information on their website other than when items will be sent out.
Overall Impression: As for the denim, the cuts are fabulous. No gaps. Nice washes. Trendy or basic styles. The buttoned trousers are my personal favorite.
One of my peeves about the Svoboda website is that they have categories with nothing in them (like coats & jackets, dresses, skirts). This wastes potential shopper's time and is a real annoyance. Yes, they are known mainly for the denim but if other categories are listed they are going to be visited. They also need to update their events calendar, about Jessica page and blog.
They have a convenient listing of where their products can be found under the "store locater" (located at the bottom of their website) and if you are interested in this line I would suggest looking into which boutiques are carrying Svoboda in your vicinity or online shops that you are familiar with or have better shipping information.
