Divorce Buddy System – The Real Secret to a Reasonable Divorce is a nonfiction book written for people who are planning to get a divorce but would like to avoid the expense and turmoil of an adversarial divorce. This book explains to the reader exactly why and how you can and should reach a divorce settlement without a trial.
Divorcing couples are often very emotional and have a very fantastical idea about how the divorce process works. This book does a very good job of using plain language to explain what happens in court. I have tried through various articles to speak to the importance of realizing that in court you really do not get to state your case and you will not get justice. But this book does it so much better and more. The impressive part is, a lawyer is writing the book.
Dr. Kulerski, a veteran divorce attorney guides you through a new idea in settling your own divorce case using plain language, straight forward explanations, and he cuts right to the meat of the situation by not giving you a lot of extraneous information.
While this is not a book about collaborative law he does give good explanations about collaborative law and mediation. The Divorce Buddy System ™ goes even further to help couples resolve their issues and reach settlement quickly and fairly both in and out of court. This is revolutionary because it is my opinion that working together for a divorce settlement is only the beginning of your divorce. If you have children you're going to have to be able to work together for the best interest of your children a lot longer than just settling your divorce.
The Divorce Buddy System ™ tasks divorcing and divorced partners to basically “be nice to each other” which Dr. Kulerski,in Chapter 4 calls, "The Eleventh Commandment". This is a new idea because no one is saying that. No one is saying you should be nice to your ex, no matter what, until now. Dr. Kulerski tells you that you must be nice to your ex and why. He gives no one excuses to be nasty to an exes face, ever. He also explains why you should do this in a manner that you realize you must.
The Divorce Buddy System ™ should be required reading along with all the required parenting classes and counseling that many courts now order as standard. It is a manual on how to properly negotiate and “kill with kindness” that I believe can help not only those thinking about or those who are already in the middle of divorce, but also those who have already finished their divorce. It will help you work better with your ex no matter how nasty they are. This book is highly recommended.
