Zip It Drain Cleaner
Guest Author - Dale Yelich

Every once in a while a product comes around that is so incredibly easy to use, is extremely effective at what it is meant to do, yet won’t break the bank when you want to buy it. That’s exactly what the Zip-It drain opener is all about.

I’ll tell you what. The maintenance guy here has seen his share of clogged drains, to be sure. One of my favorite things to use when a drain is stopped up has been the regular bathroom plunger. Most often than not, plunging a drain will open it up, and to this day, I had always thought that a plunger was probably the most inexpensive drain opener that one could buy. Well, not anymore.

The Zip-It drain cleaner is a long flattened piece of plastic with reversed teeth along it’s length. Just push it down a clogged drain, and it will snake well past the p-trap, then slowly pull it back out. The teeth will grab anything that is in the way, and you will literally pull the clog right back to you! That’s all there is to it!

Obviously, deep pipe clogs are going to need a long snake or the aforementioned plunger, but a lot of times, and especially in baths or showers, the clog consists mainly of soap scum and hair. Needless to say, the teeth on this baby will grip any hair clog tightly, and you will pull it all right back up, where it can easily be thrown away.

You won’t have to use any chemicals here, and it can be found in most hardware stores for only about 2 bucks! Yeah, just 2 bucks. It is easy to use, very safe since the teeth are just plastic, and it will latch onto and grab anything in your drain and unclog it fast.

This thing is so thin, you don’t even have to remove any drain plug or other drain assembly. It will slide right past everything as you insert it into your drain, so there is no need to disassemble anything, and it has a handy finger ring on the end, so it is easy to pull it up. Just push it down a couple of times, and pull it out. If it isn’t a deep clog, the Zip-It will snag your problem and you’ll have a free running drain again in seconds.

Believe me, I have been unclogging drains for as long as I can remember, but unclogging them has never been as easy as using a Zip-It drain cleaner. A neat idea, and in my opinion, this should be the first thing to use on a clogged drain, before anything else.
