A Jungle Honeymoon

Tucked snuggly into the middle of a private 365-acre rainforest reserve along the banks of the winding Macal River in the foothills of Belize’s Maya Mountains, the setting alone promises a unique, “Me Tarzan, you Jane,” honeymoon experience.

Choose between jungle lodge accommodations with palm-thatched rooms nestled along the roaring river, or opt for one of the secluded casitas scattered throughout the dense rainforest on raised platforms with airy peak-roofs to capture sultry evening breezes. Sheltered porches and full screens allow you to commune directly with the undisturbed jungle habitat – disturbed only, perhaps by the occasional serenade of a distant macaw or the rustling of wild parrots.

Nearby, the remnants of an ancient Maya city might just give up some of their long-lost secrets, should you decide to meander miles of well-maintained trails. If you and your “Tarzan” wish to expand your horizons, sign up for off-site excursions to off-site archeological treasures such as the Maya ruins of Tikal in Guatemala.

Later, lull your bodies – and your spirits – into perfect harmony with nature by treating yourselves to a variety of spa options. Some of the offerings include wraps, scrubs, body polishing and an extensive list of refreshing facial treatments and masks. In between, laze the afternoon away, lounging on the deck or cuddling in soft hammocks.

What’s unique – The on site Natural History Centre and Blue Morpho Butterfly Farm offer a comprehensive overview of the area’s natural heritage. Savvy guides are on hand to showcase archaeological artifacts and to describe butterflies, moths, and amphibians native to this rich ecosystem.

What’s cool - Special tours to the Mountain Pine Ridge waterfalls, the Rainforest Medicinal Trail, secluded swimming holes and Maya ceremonial caves.

What’s romantic - Kicking back and enjoying a bottle of fine champagne in your private Jacuzzi, sharing a candlelight dinner under the huge thatched canopy or simply taking in nature from your private verandah.

What’s to do - Mountain biking or horseback riding along sweet-smelling jungle trails, bird watching, canoeing, guided tours to the ancient Maya city of Xunatunich, 20 minutes away or arranging a dive trip to Belize's stunning azure coastline and cayes.

What’s to eat - A traditional Mestizo kitchen dishes up Belizean fare such as pan seared tiger shrimp and zesty ceviche, as well as international treats.
