I am a HUGE fan of hybrid electric cars. They help to generate their own power when they brake, and they are incredibly gas efficient. I jumped to try the Toyota Prius Hybrid Electric Car when it came out.

The car goes for $20,000 new, which is relatively inexpensive for a new car. It runs on gas, but when you brake or are coasting it charges its batteries with energy. It can therefore get an amazing 60 miles per gallon!!
The car is sleek and can fit up to 5 passengers. This isn't a tiny car. It comes in a small range of colors from black to silver, red to pearl. I would really have liked a green one :)
I really loved the Prius when I test drove it and was impressed with its get-up-and-go as well as its highway performance. To tell the truth, the ONLY reason I did not buy a Prius immediately was that, at the time, there was a four month wait on getting one. The car was in HUGE demand!! If you are able to find a dealer that has one in stock, I'd highly recommend it. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you'll be helping your own pocketbook.
