Faux painting new life

Faux painting new life
Faux painting your furniture into a new life.

Changing the look of an old piece of furniture can be as easy as painting it. Faux painting furniture is even more impressive and can add life to old, worn out furniture.

There are a couple of simple techniques that will make the furniture look unique and professionally refinished. Once you get into your groove, you will find it to be enjoyable as well as rewarding.

Before you begin applying any color to your furniture, be sure that is it is clean and smooth. This is very important so that whatever you do will not only look professional, but also make your job much easier. Don't forget to dry with a fresh towel once you have cleaned the surface.

Once you're ready to paint, here's some techniques you may like:

Antiquing furniture: Antiquing is very beautiful! Furniture that is professionally done this way can be very expensive. But for the cost of a couple of quarts of paint, you can have this look on any piece of furniture you want.

Distressed furniture painting: Distressing a piece of furniture gives it a nice weathered look and adds character. It's a fairly easy process. This technique has even saved some furniture I was about to get rid of. I took an old dresser someone had sent to the curb and distressed it. The unwanted dresser which was left on the tree belt had turned into a china cabinet in my kitchen. Not only did I find a creative way to save this unwanted dresser, I also created a unique piece to add to my kitchen. It has been the conversation starter over coffee many times.

Crackle faux painting on furniture: The crackle effect on furniture is very impressive. It again gives a lot of character to a piece of furniture. It gives it another type of antique effect that can complement many different design ideas depending on your color choice.

Remember to make sure the piece you're working on is clean and ready to paint. Cleaning your piece of furniture may require doing so with a detergent or solvent and maybe even a little sanding. I always lightly sand my furniture before I apply any of these fax finishes simply to ensure a consistent finish.
