Usually when reviewing a book, I provide a summary of the book and then my impressions. In this case, I am going to give my opinion first and then advise the readers as to why I have this opinion.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. There are 19 chapters in this book, a marriage bill of rights and a marriage test. The reason I enjoyed this book was because this book provides the reader with the tools to assist him/her when trying to evaluate his/her marriage.

Unlike other books I have read, Dr. Birnbach and Dr. Hyman do not advocate that people should try to save a marriage that may not work for them. On the other hand, they are not advocating divorce. The book contains a combination of clinical information and questions, as well as recitations of examples of experiences. This keeps the book from becoming boring and causing the reader to loose interest.

The authors challenge their readers to question and evaluate their self-esteem, as well as their level of happiness and intimacy in the marriage. They discuss fears people may have regarding divorce including loneliness, financial difficulties and impacts on children. Cautioning readers to not use their children as pawns and seek revenge is an important message.

The book also discusses the tipping point in the marriage and the need to make a plan. This advice is to enable the reader to compile his/her thoughts. By reducing them to writing, there will be concrete document which will permit the person to take emotion out of the path forward. If divorce is the proper course, the written document will hopefully allow the person to avoid common and painful errors made during the divorce process.

I was incredibly impressed with the Marriage Bill of Rights. They set forth ten rights that every person should expect in a marriage. They include respect, affection, honesty, support and communication. Every marriage cannot be perfect everyday. However, I believe that readers who review the Marriage Bill Of Rights, read the book and take the test at the end of the book will be able to make a honest evaluation of their marriages and make decisions about their future, including the decision to divorce.

My advice is go to your favorite bookstore and buy this book or go online and purchase it. It is a great read.
