BET Celebration of Gospel

BET Celebration of Gospel
So I get the call "Candace are you coming to the Celebration of Gospel this year…we don’t have you confirmed” I’m like what…I never miss that show! I quickly got that straight and told Zabrina and team I will be there. So off on a plane the very next day I go to attend the festivities and what a great event it turned out to be.

First up…the Celebration of Gospel Prayer Breakfast held the day before the taping of the show at the Omni Hotel. This was the first time a prayer breakfast was held for the event and it was fabulous! Created under the direction of Tonya Moore and Giovanni Brewer, the Producer and Executive Producer of the show respectively, the breakfast featured plenty of good food, music and prayers of course.

Rev. Jamal Bryant preached and prayed about going after our dreams in the new year and trusting God to make sure they all came true. This hit home with me for sure. There were performances by Ernest Pugh, Vashawn Mitchell and the Sunday Best Alumnae Jessica Reedy. Dr. Bobby Jones was there and Tonya and Giovanni gave brief speeches at the end stating that this was the first prayer breakfast but not the last for the event. The prayer breakfast was a great idea from the corporate communications and productions staff of BET and everyone really enjoyed it. I plan to be at the next one for sure.

Next up was the show and let me tell you, check your local listings because you don’t want to miss this program. Of course Steve Harvey was the host once again and as usual he was crazy. Funny is an understatement when it comes to this man…he was off the chains.

There were so many performances and appearances including those from Donnie McClurkin, Pastor Shirley Caesar, and Smokie Norful. The Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker and Bishop Walter Hawkins were remembered in tributes.
As in past shows some secular artists performed including El DeBarge, Chaka Khan and Howard Hewitt. There was even some spoken word segments provided by Bishop TD Jakes and Hill Harper.

The show stopping performance came from none other than Whitney Houston and Kim Burrell. That is one to watch for sure. The show comes on January 30th and again, I suggest you don’t miss it. Remember check your local listings for times.
