Snow White - a Review

Gram’s Fairy Tales version of Snow White differs greatly from the original. There is still a queen who is fanatical about her looks, a queen whose greatest desire is to be the most beautiful in all the land.

In this enchanted land, a Magical Order of Mirrors exists. Since it is narcissistic Queen Amber's ambition to stay young and beautiful forever, she checks frequently with her mirror to ensure she is still the most gorgeous gal around.

Snow White is an orphan. As a young child, she was found by the dwarves on their way home from work. Adopted by these little men, she became a little sister to them. Now a beautiful young lady, she keeps house for the dwarves and takes care of them. Her skills at housekeeping, cooking, and home décor excel. Her dream is to find the perfect husband to take care of and keep house for.

The Magical Order of Mirrors has decided to hold a beauty contest to find the most beautiful and most talented woman in all the land; she will be granted “A Wish Come True”, a prize coveted by all. Magic was allowed in all parts of the contest except for ‘Natural Beauty’. The beauty itself had to be real. Of course, you know the identity of two of the contestants.

Queen Amber’s magic mirror has told her that Snow White is her only real competition for the grand prize, so the queen tries in several devious, though comical, ways to have Snow White disqualified from the contest. For example, while disguised as an old woman the queen gives the unsuspecting Snow White a cream to soften skin that will actually cause one to break out in a rash.

It wouldn’t be fair to divulge the ending of Ms. Meredith’s version of Snow White, which is a good, non-scary read. At first, I was a bit dismayed because I couldn’t see where Queen Amber faced any consequences her attempts to have Snow White disqualified. I asked the author about this and was satisfied with her answer. The answer to this and other questions I had are in my interview with her and her granddaughter, Catelyn.

My copy was sent to me free of charge by the publisher. Buy a copy for yourself and the other young people in your life. You won’t be disappointed. The link provided below will take you to Amazon, where you may purchase this book.
