I Have a Little Dreidel History and Lyris
Guest Author - Host Wanted

This Hannukah song is sung while playing with a dreidel. It's a great game for children, and a very catchy tune.

The dreidel is a top whose sides say: nun, gimel, heh, and shin (or pey in Israel). Each player puts one coin or candy into the pot. One player spins the dreidel. If it says:

nun: nothing happens
gimel: take all from the pot
heh: take half from the pot
shin/pey: add 1 to the pot

I have a little dreidel,
I made it out of clay,
And when it's dry and ready,
Then dreidel I shall play.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
I made it out of clay;
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
Now dreidel I shall play.

It has a lovely body,
With leg so short and thin,
And when it gets all tired,
It drops and then I win.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
With leg so short and thin,
Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel,
It drops and then I win.
