County & State Maps

When doing our research we are often learning about new places. Learning where the counties are within a certain state can help when doing research and travels.

A great site I use often is the US Census Bureau’s State and County Quickfacts page. Maps of the states, divided into their county lines, can be found. There are also pages that tell about important data regarding that particular county. Population, business and geography are broken down as a state and as part of the United States. There is a place to find information about some of the major cities within the state.

My favorite use of this site is the county maps. These maps are free and can be downloaded. The county map page has a “print maps” feature. This page lists all the states and the size map you can print. There is even a link to download all the maps and/or print at the same time. This would make a great gift for a traveler or genealogists. I have printed out these pages and put them into page protectors. Then, I had them put into a binder. As I do my research for a particular state, I can see the relationship between counties as I lay out my state map next to me. It is a wonderful way to trace the migration of my ancestors and their travels.

I highly recommend this link to anyone who wants to learn the location of counties and cities within a state; especially as they do their genealogical research and travels.
