Mom's Time Out - Bath Night

If you have kids, bath night may be one of your family's squeakiest times.

At least it is in our house. I don't just mean squeaky-clean. I mean plain old squeaky. As in three little girls running around, laughing with that squeaky screech that only little girls, it seems, can make, and splashing water on each other and the squeaky yellow ducks that bob along for the ride.

Well, kids are on to something. Bath time can be a great time to unwind, swirl around some bubbles and wash away your stress.

So, instead of just jumping in and out of the shower each morning, why not set aside at least once a week for Mommy's Bath Night?

If your children are too young to entertain themselves unsupervised for an hour or so, you'll need to enlist the help of your husband, your mother, your sister, or your best friend. Get someone to take the motherhood yoke off of you for awhile.

Then, set some rules: Declare it's Mommy's Bath Night and the bathroom you'll use is off-limits. (This works best, of course, when you have another bathroom for potty breaks). Kids are not to disturb you, and they are to play quietly far away from the bathroom.

Next, plan what makes a bath special for you. Chances are, it won't be the kids' squeakers. What would you like? Tranquil music? A new bubble bath? A couple of candles? Maybe just peace and quiet and no one needing anything at all from you?

Then, lock the door and drift away. Take it even further by visualizing you are in your favorite getaway spot, on a sandy shore, in a warm bay, wherever you would like to go.

When you're done, if you don't fall asleep, you'll emerge relaxed and ready for the next squeaky chorus.
