Spring Fever

Guest Author - Elizabeth Darrach

Hello, and welcome back! With the exception of today's chilly showers, spring is definitely here. All I need now is for the leaves to sprout on the tree in the backyard, and then I can spend my evenings beneath it with my reading material of choice. At last!

As a reminder for those of you who may have missed last week's article or newsletter, there are only two more weeks to get your completed reader surveys to me. The deadline is April 30 to have your opinions included in this. I truly want to know what readers want. If there are enough responses to this survey, I intend to share the results with the major romance publishers. After all, if they don't know what their readers think, they won't know what to change to make things better.

This week, I've got three books to share with you, two new and one old, being reissued. The old romance is Bertrice Small's Blaze Wyndham
Blaze Wyndham
(NAL). This is a trade sized reissue of her 1988 story of innocent Blaze Morgan, wed to Lord Edmund Wyndham and her journey from happy wife to mistress of a king and back to marriage again. Of course, signature to Ms. Small's storytelling is the steamy relationship between her heroine and her partners as she goes through life. This was one of my favorites of her books, and I'm happy that it's been reissued for readers who may not have stumbled across this one yet. Of Cupid's five arrows, it gets four. Plus, I'm giving away a copy over in the forum, so hurry over.

The second steamy romance I have to share with you this week is Pamela Britton's Seduced
Seduced
(Warner Forever). Lucien St. Aubyn, Duke of Ravenwood, better known as the Rake of Ravenwood, has gotten himself into a bit of a mess--publicly compromising Elizabeth Montclair at a party, thus forcing them into marriage, which was the last thing on his mind. Yes, he's been attracted to her forever, but marriage? Elizabeth is no less unhappy about the proceedings, as she can't stand the man she's now to marry. Funny thing is, neither of them expects to be at all happy in this farce of a union, yet the unexpected has a way of popping up at the most inopportune times. Lots of fun, wounded hero, determined heroine, and some super-steamy seduction. I'm borrowing four arrows for this one also.

Finally this week we have the second in Jessica Hall, aka Gena Hale's new trilogy, The Steel Caress
The Steel Caress
(Signet). This time out, General Kalen Grady gets his shot at love--and mystery. Raven, aka Major Sarah Ravenowitz, holds a grudge a long time. Of course, she has good reason to hold this grudge, having lost much of herself years ago, and she blames it on the military who'd sent her on the mission and then left her there for dead. Kalen has no way of knowing exactly what happened on her last mission, he just knows he loved Sarah then and wants her still. But they have a very dangerous enemy to ferret out before they can even consider working things out. Great suspense, believable emotion and conflict between these characters. I'm giving this one four arrows, too. Lots of good reading this week, plus we still have the final book in the trilogy to look forward to--Sean Delaney finally gets his story told!

Until next week, happy reading!
