Junco Photos and Information
Guest Author - Lisa Shea

Juncos are the friendly winter birds that enjoy the snow and hop around in the deep drifts. Learn more about this cold-weather bird.

Juncos have soot-black feathers on top and white feathers underneath. They love hopping around on the ground looking for seed and other tasty morsels. If hard-pressed, they might deign to climb up onto a feeder and see what it has to offer.

Juncos love to flock and will often be found in groups of 10 or 20 hop-hoping around the base of a feeder.
