February 8 2011 Quilting Newsletter

Hi everyone, itís me popping in to say hello again. Iíve been a busy bee making a quilt for my daughterís friend who has just given birth to her second son, Isaac. Iím having fun with this quilt, but I must be careful not to tarry too long Ė the baby needs his quilt now.

Iíve chosen a simple block pieced quilt, using bright happy fabrics and colors, and have put prairie points all around the quilt, then added another border. Looks quite nice and Iím ready to put the three layers together and quilt. I will write an article on it soon, so you can see the pictures, and Iíll include some instructions for those who are interested.

We had our first Queensland Quilters Inc guild gathering at our new venue yesterday, and Iím exhausted. It was a great day (as it always is), and the venue stood up to our expectations. Itís such an important factor in have a gathering of 150 members. The venue needs to be big enough so weíre not cramped, yet small enough so everyone can participate. We had a few procedures to sort out, but the library worked well, as did the refreshments. I needed 16 members to volunteer for the tea roster (two volunteers each monthly meeting) and I had the roster filled in about half an hour. That goes to show the camaraderie we share at Queensland Quilters. (Did I tell you I l.o.v.e my guild?)

Last Sunday I posted an article about purchasing and downloading patterns from the internet. I came across a quilt site that offers a free pattern to purchase (free) and download, to give the customer the experience of purchasing off the web. What a great idea. So many of my quilting friends are afraid of using this great service. So I went through the motions and have written down my experience. Hereís the link to that article:

Itís been quiet on the forum front lately. Iím guessing quilters are busy quilting! If you have anything to say or ask, remember itís your forum. Iíd love to hear from you sometime. Hereís the link to the forum

Well, Iíve had a wonderful time this week surfing my way through sites of interest to me and hopefully to you. Hereís your pressies for this week: love these pretty luggage tags. lovely idea for kiddies. wouldnít this look pretty in a little girlís room? great instructions to make a nursing cover a cute idea for the grandies what a good idea! a lovely idea I prefer the pattern a solid centre strip. What do you think? a nice broad brimmed hat to make for yourself

Thatís all from me this week, thanks for having me at your place, and I hope the week ahead is a happy, healthy one for you. Where ever you are, whatever you are doing, know that you are a valued and cherished member of the Bellaonline Quilting community that spreads its hands all over the globe!
