Do you remember seeing your first classic film and how it effected your perspective as an audience member? I do. It was The Marx Brother’s “Day at the Races,” and it still remains to be one of my favorite comedies.

So why are classic films so very important? They do not just express well-written stories and powerful performances. Classic films are part of our heritage. They help us to discover who we are, individually and collectively. They preserve history. They reveal the human condition. Sometimes, they bring us face to face with ourselves. Even more so, a classic film can be like a good friend you can always count on to be there for you. When you are not having the best day and you need a good laugh, The Marx Bros. can surely bring you out of your doldrums. When you need a change of scenery, “Summertime” can easily whisk you away to Venice for the afternoon. It’s your 123rd time watching “The Wizard of Oz,” and you still cannot figure out why Dorothy’s pigtails change length from scene to scene.

Need to know more about the classic era stars you have come to know and love? Curious about what may have happened behind the cameras of some of your favorite films? Want to be introduced to classics perhaps unknown to you or be reaquainted with these old friends but in a fresh, new way? Then enrich your enjoyment of the classics by subscribing to my FREE Classic Films Newsletter. Let me know what interests you about classic films, too. Once each week, you will be notified of my new article, forum news, quizzes, games and anything else I provide in hopes of enhancing your classic film experience. There is no need to worry about spam, junk mail or ads cluttering your mailbox. With Bella Online’s secure e-mail system, your name and e-mail address are kept private, even from the Bella Online editor. And though I am confident you will find my newsletter interesting, intriguing and even fun at times, there is no hassle should you ever wish to unsubscribe.

It is these films and players the likes of which will never be replicated, no matter the remakes or the technological advances in film-making, that become and remain classics. Don’t miss one of them. There are untold surprises in so many of which you may have never seen or heard.
