Baseball Down to Final Four  With the first round of the playoffs complete, the Padres, Dodgers, Twins and Yankees are out. Apparently the Cardinals and Tigers weren’t on their last legs after all. St. Louis will take on the Mets and Detroit will battle Oakland for their respective league championships. Cards are Dealt - La Russa Wins Another World Series  Tony La Russa became the second manager to win a World Series with teams from both the American and National league. Effa Manley – First Woman Inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame  Effa Manley,owner of the Newark Eagles in the Negro Leagues and civil rights pioneer was inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 30th Handicapping the MLB Races  Coolstandings.com provides a new and interesting approach to describing the probability that teams will play in the post season Introducing the Baseball Newsletter  Bellaonline baseball newsletter introduction of David Landry as the new editor. Is it in the Cards?  The Cardinals have been fading as we come to the end of the season. Their record is unimpressive. Will they make the playoffs? Houston is breathing down their necks! Is the All Star Game Really Passé?  Is the all star game still relevant? This years all star game provided top flight entertainment Mets Will Clinch, Yankees a Cinch  The postseason is shaking out and its clear that both NY teams will be in the mix. There could be a rematch of the 2000 subway series. Here are my thoughts on that and the other key races. Mid Season Baseball Standings - MLB Parity!  At mid season, the races in all but one division are wide open. This should continue well into September. MLB Standings Coming Into the Home Stretch  Summer is behind us, so it´s time to focus on the race to make the post season. Here´s a look at the division and wild card races after Labor Day. New York and Philadelphia – A Tale of Two Cities at the Trade Deadline  The New York Yankees have traded to win by acquiring Bobby Abreu, while the Philadelphia Phillies have traded away this season and next Ryan Howard should be the National League MVP  Pujols and Howard are very close in almost all respects, but Howard did one thing that differentiates him - he showed up! Talk to Your Kids about the World Series  With all of the World Series games starting at 8pm ET, many children won’t be able to see the whole game live. You can still help foster their enjoyment of baseball and the series by talking to them about it between games. The Curse of A-Rod?  When Alex Rodriguez left Seattle, his former teammates called him “the cooler”. It’s hard to believe that such an accomplished player could come to be known as a choke artist and a detriment to his team, but that is what Yankees fans and the media are saying. Are they right? There is No Joy in Mudville - Cardinals Win the NLCS  Carlos Beltran did his best imitation of mighty Casey in the ninth inning by striking out with the bases loaded. The Cardinals took game 7 of the NLCS by winning a pitcher’s duel with the Mets. Tigers Sweep ALCS, NLCS Tied at Two  The Tigers made quick work of the A’s, sweeping them with a walk-off win in game four. Magglio Ordonez promised his son a home run in honor of the boy’s eleventh birthday and came through with two, including the walk-off three run homer. Who should be American League MVP?  A look at the quantifiable and intangible factors for choosing the American League MVP.
