Astonishing Polish cemeteries  The most known burial places are situated in Warsaw, Krakow and Zakopane. They feature astonishing architecture and great people who have been buried on them. Those cemeteries are ranked among the most precious monuments of Poland. Bishop Stanislaw, the first Polish Saint  The legend about life and martyrdom of the first Polish saint, bishop Stanislaw, became known throughout Poland. Historical truth, however, differs from those stories as the legend of the bishop was created by opponents of the king who convicted Stanislaw. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Sanctuary  The sanctuary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska dates back to the beginning of 17th century. The calvaries as such started, however, in 15th century in Spain. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska can boast also of 16th century monastery and painting of Holy Mary. Karol Wojtyla – the Polish Pope  Karol Wojtyla, known to most of the people as John Paul II, was one of the greatest Poles in history of the country. His death, despite his age, was not expected as he seemed to an immortal hero who would stay with us forever. Saint Faustyna and the Divine Mercy  Helena was born in a poor numerous family of Kowalskis. She felt the vocation in her early years. In spite of serious illness and poor education, Faustyna richly described her mystic experiences. Apart from the diary, Faustyna is also associated with the depiction of Divine Mercy. The holiest site of Poland  The most important shrine of Poland is situated in Jasna Gora monastery in Czestochowa. The site is connected with icon of Virgin Mary – called Black Madonna – to which many miracles are attributed.
