Fresh Peach Kuchen Recipe

Fresh Peach Kuchen Recipe
Everybody loves fresh peaches, especially the locally grown ones that are extra sweet. And while it’s nice to eat them plain, or with a bit of sugar and cream, most of us are always searching to find good recipes to use them in. The following Fresh Peach Kuchen was adapted from a recipe published online; slight changes were made so that it includes lots of fresh peaches and freshly grated nutmeg. This yummy peach dessert has everything – no ice cream needed – no whipped cream needed. It’s also good hot, warm, or cold, so it doesn’t matter if you make it ahead or just before dinner.

12 Servings

Crust:
3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter

Filling:
4 pounds fresh peaches
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping:
4 egg yolks
2 cups sour cream
3 tablespoons sugar
freshly grated nutmeg

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Spray a 9" x 13" shallow glass baking dish with non-stick spray.
  3. Crust: Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder; cut in the butter until it looks like small peas. Press the crust into the prepared pan.
  4. Filling: Bring a large pan to a boil, add the peaches, let them cook 1 minute, and plunge them into cold water. At this point the skins will easily slide off.
  5. Cut the peaches in half, remove the pits, and slice.
  6. Place the slices evenly over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle with the sugar, grate the nutmeg over the peaches, and sprinkle with the cinnamon.
  8. Bake 15 minutes; remove from the oven.
  9. Topping: Mix the egg yolks and sour cream; spread over the peaches.
  10. Sprinkle the sour cream mixture with the sugar and grate some nutmeg over the top.
  11. Place back in the oven and bake an additional 35 minutes.
