Beautiful Transformation
Have you looked into a mirror lately? Are you happy with what you see?
This is for my fellow believers who, like me, struggle with vanity on occasion. The unattractive trait is difficult to avoid. It sneaks up on me when I’m not paying attention. Youth and beauty are being glorified on every platform. We are encouraged to purchase creams, cosmetics, and surgeries in looking for our own fountain of youth. We take vitamins to help fight deterioration from the inside. Still, time marches on. Please excuse the well-worn platitude.
I think I can say with a fair amount of assurance that all of us are growing older. When I look into a mirror, there’s no denying it. I can find new lines around my eyes and mouth, and a few more gray hairs. If not more gray hair, then possibly simply fewer strands. I’m not alone in this. My friends tell me they're experiencing the same phenomena. I’m pretty sure anyone reading this is also riding the same aging train.
But friends, take heart. God is in the process of making each of us more beautiful.
At belief, when we put our faith in the Savior, we received the Holy Spirit. And with him came gifts, we call the fruit of the Spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are ours, although sometimes they are overlooked. We must remember to make use of these gifts. This is beauty.
The Bible tells us that those who love the Lord are being transformed into the image of Christ. This is another gift we must remember to make use of. We are told to stop being conformed to this world. This may require breaking some deep-seated habits. Instead, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. With every year of loving the Lord, with every step we take on the path of following Jesus, we become more like him. Such an honor is worth every gray hair and wrinkle.
Scripture promises that one day, when our Lord appears, we will see him as he is and we will be like him. Hallelujah! This is something to look forward to.
Lord, I’m on my knees in gratitude that you won’t leave me as I am, but have promised to continue making me like you, whatever it takes.
