Air Fryer Bacon Cheese Toasties Recipe

Air Fryer Bacon Cheese Toasties Recipe
I often get ideas for my food arcticles from my favorite food related emails that I have signed up for. Recently, I received one from BH&G featuring vintage recipes from their 1943 edition of the red & white checked classic cookbook. I was intrigued at the recipe for Toasted Cheese Buns, which consisted of hot dog buns (they called them finger buns in those days), stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon, and broiled. Since we now have air fryers, I decided to make mine in an air fryer, and I also made mine open-face, rather than using a whole bun. My version of Air Fryer Bacon Cheese Toasties is quick, easy, and delicious. These sandwiches go well with soups, salads, or just on their own.

I was surprised to see that the recipe is missing from my old copy of the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook which was published in 1966, never again to appear in the oft updated versions of the classic cookbook, but these simple sandwiches are worth reviving. Note, depending on how crisp you like your bacon, the ends may get a little brown; I just slice them off when that happens.

8 Sandwiches

4 hot dog buns, split
4 ounces sliced cheddar cheese
8 slices thick bacon

  1. Place 1/2 slice cheese on each hot dog bun half.
  2. Wrap each with a slice of bacon.
  3. Place in the air fryer which has been heated to 390°.
  4. Let air fry for about 10 minutes or until the bacon is crisp.
