My Trip to the Dove Awards
My first trip to the Dove Awards was full challenges and excitement.
The 34th Annual Dove Awards is an awards show that is like no other! Sponsored by the Gospel Music Association, this year's event was hosted by one of my favorite artist CeCe Winans and Steven Curtis Chapman. The entire week leading up to the Dove Awards is full of exciting events that are planned by the Gospel Music Association. GMA Week allows all participants to showcase their talents as well as make some wonderful connections.
I found myself overwhelmed by the possible interviews for Christian Conversations! It was so wonderful meeting all of the people behind the scenes at GMA Week. I even made a connection for my show to go national. I don't want to give away too many details until it's done but I'm so excited about the possibilities!
Anyway the artists interviews in the press room during the Dove Awards were great. I talked with Smokie Norful, Audio Adrenaline, Toby Mac and Trinity 5:7. I think the most impressive statement I heard came from Smokie Norful when he talked about coming so far in his career in such a short time. You could tell he was really moved by the success of his CD and all of the attention he is receiving.
Because the press is only allowed in the press room, I didn't have tickets to the actual show....we are not suppose to sit out front, but I met a wonderful young man, James Sheppard, with Spirit 89.7 out of Miami, Florida. He and a group of friends had tickets so they gave me one and I went to the front. The show was awesome! The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Amy Grant and Pat Boone were inducted into the Gospel Music of America Hall of Fame. Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams performed their duet "Our Prayer" from his new CD. It was very moving. The Crabb Family performed and they were spectacular. CeCe was wonderful and so was Steven Curtis Chapman.
I took plenty of pictures but unfortunately ......I lost my camera.... I'm still crying about that. I had it in my coat pocket and I took it out to take a picture of the stage after the show. I thought I put it back in my pocket and I guess missed my pocket and it must have fallen to the floor. I looked all over that place for it but it wasn't to be found. So I guess for some reason me and pictures just don't mix. I called the security office and nobody turned it in. I didn't think they would there was still plenty of film left on it. Somebody is using that camera and having a good time. Oh well I have my memories...but pictures would be great. (Smile)
Oh well like my friend Crystal said....there are worse things that could have happened. I could be living in Baghdad right now. So in spite of it all I'm blessed.
I had a great time and great memories. For a complete list of the winners of the Dove Awards log on to the link for the website listed in related links.

One more tip...if you ever come to Tennessee you must eat at Monell's! This is a great restaurant. It is like eating at your grandmother's house. You sit at this table with all kinds of people and pass around great home cooking. I ate so much I thought I was "gonna" die!
There was fried chicken, fried catfish, vegatable lasagna, creamed corn, squash, coleslaw, salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, hush puppies, cucumber salad, pasta salad, cajun catfish, sweet and fruit tea . I was just stuffed! I had to sit down and rest after that meal. LOL All of this food was only $12!!! Oh and I can't forget the homemade rolls and banana pudding! Just awesome!
