DoverPictura.com Dover Clip Art
I’ve been using Dover Clip Art for decades. The first clip art book that I purchased from Dover was Old-Fashioned Christmas Illustrations. I used it to create craft projects that I sold at craft fairs. This was before graphic software or CD-ROMs. So, you needed to cut the images from the pages of the book. Later, that same book was sold with a CD-ROM containing the images at 600 dpi in various formats, which was a great improvement.
Now, you can get these images, along with numerous others, online at the new DoverPictura.com. Still in Beta, this site is where you can browse, purchase and download Dover clip art. Once you make a purchase, you will be emailed a download link for the zip file. However, all of your purchases are always available for download again from your account area.
There are two ways to find images on the site. The side menu contains category links and there’s a search engine. After you register for a free account, you can setup your wish list. When you choose a collection to consider, you're taken to a webpage with the details for the collection such as total number of images in the collection, image formats, description and price. There is a thumbnail of each image sheet or page from the book/collection. Clicking the thumbnail gives you a large preview of the sheet. You can add the image sheet to your cart directly from the preview page.
You have two options for purchasing images - collections and image sheets. For example, the book is available as a collection of all the images in the book/CD, usually at a lower price than the physical book/CD. An image sheet is one page from the book. At this time, most image sheets are $0.99. This is nice if you only want to use a few images because you don’t need to purchase the entire collection.
