Selene Warren knows she has supernatural powers, and is a member of a Wiccan coven with her best friends. But since she has been raised by her grandmother due to the death of her parents, and has never actually used her powers, she doesn't really understand how to use them or just how powerful they really are. It is when a good-looking, but strange, man named Cheney shows up at Selene's yoga studio that her life is turned upside down and she learns the truth about her grandmother being a powerful witch, and that she is a half-elf. Selene must make the decision whether to stay with her fiancée, Michael, her yoga studio, and friends, or trust Cheney, an elf, and go with him to live a life full of supernatural creatures.

Basically, this novel introduces the characters, and while there is some drama and suspense, it mostly gives the background and opens up Selene, et. al. for subsequent novels. Often novels that are the first in a series are not as good as the novels that come later, and hopefully, that is the case for this series. The novel is interesting and well written; there are some good scenarios, but all-in-all, this novel isn't particularly exciting. The characters are, however, likeable, and Schulte has done a good job of making them seem like real people who are sometimes difficult, or stubborn, etc.

The title and cover of this novel are extremely misleading. They give the impression (to me) that the book is a light hearted cozy and possibly a culinary mystery. Not! There are several fairly blatant sexually explicit scenes, and nothing even close to culinary anything. There are also a few minor usage, punctuation, and grammatical errors, but they don't really take away from the story. The Kindle edition of the book, however, is free from Amazon, and since it's a fast read, it's a real bargain, especially as an introduction for readers who plan on reading the rest of the series.

This book was purchased with personal funds and no promotion of the book was solicited by the author or publisher.
