Devotional Review - A Bouquet of Devotions

Devotional Review - A Bouquet of Devotions
How do you start your day? Many of my mornings begin with a cup of coffee and Scripture. It is not only my favorite way to start the day, it is necessary for my spiritual and emotional well-being. Recently, the book, A Bouquet of Devotions has been part of my morning reading. Daily scripture reading is inspired by comparison to some of God’s most beautiful flowers.
  • Love of flowers
  • + Importance of beginning each day with God’s word.
  • = A Bouquet of Devotions – 50 Common Flowers, 50 Unique Devotions, by Gloria Doty and Jeanette Dall
    A perfect fit.

Each devotion contains a color photograph of the flower along with a brief history and growing tips. Who knew there was a flower whose seeds you don’t bury? The seeds of Penta plant are left on top on the dirt. They need the sunlight to germinate, just as we need the light of God’s love to grow.

Did you know that carnations were grown in medieval times for their medicinal and flavoring properties? Did you know the Black-eyed Susan is one of the first plants to reappear after a disaster such as a forest fire?
Is your life too busy to study the Bible or flower growing tips? Each devotion in this book will take less than five minutes. However you may feel drawn to spend more time in prayer as the Scripture hits home.

When I've finished the fifty devotions, I’ll keep this book handy when choosing plants for my garden. I've already found new flowers to add this summer.

A Bouquet of Devotions is a great gift book for Mother’s Day, birthday, or any day for someone who loves flowers.

A word from Gloria Doty: "I know a lot of people enjoy flowers; whether they grow them or just receive them. The history and growing tips are a bonus. I believe the flowers and devotions are intertwined enough to make even a non-believer contemplate God's goodness."

Sisters, Gloria Doty and Jeanette Dall combined their efforts in putting this devotional together. They selected beautiful color pictures of fifty flowers and thought-provoking Scripture to accompany each. Gloria Doty also authored “Not Different Enough: A Thirty-Year Journey With Autism, Asperger's, And Intellectual Disabilities”

I purchased A Bouquet of Devotions with my own money and was not paid for the review.
