Laura Keiper Stein’s cookbook, Fresh Made Simple is a different take on ingredients and recipes. While there are over 75 recipes, they are not written in the traditional way with a list of ingredients and directions in a paragraph; rather, they are laid out via pictures with minimal text. On first glance at the book, it appears to be a book for children – delightful, appealing illustrations and very simple ideas for using ingredients. However, while full of colorful, simple pages, it is a cookbook for adults.

The book is divided into sections: Scrambled, Smooth, Smashed, Tossed, Roasted & Toasted, Spreadable, Stacked, Stuffed, Chunky, Cheesy, & Plain Vanilla. Under each section there are ingredients (healthy) that are used to make very simple dishes. While this is a non-traditional and unique way to set up a cookbook, it seems to work.

There are recipe for egg dishes such as Scrambled Eggs with Chives and Goat Cheese, Smoothies with fruits and veggies, including kale, and three very tempting salad dressings. There are also simple recipes like applesauce, nut butter, and guacamole. Easy fruity beverages are great for a backyard barbecue or just for a weeknight dinner, and several salad and vegetable dishes are also included.

Fresh Made Simple is fun. Fresh Made Simple is unique. Fresh Made Simple is a book for non-cooks, busy cooks, and those who prefer very simple food. Fresh Made Simple is a book filled with healthy dishes anyone can make.
