I love cookbooks that are personalized and reflect the traits and qualities of the authors. Meet Me in my Cape Cod Kitchen is just that kind of cookbook, with vignettes, pictures, and family recipes from Linda Maria Steele. Steele not only invites us into her kitchen, but into her life, and by the time the book is finished, it seems like she is a friend.

Although the book doesn’t contain as many recipes as I’d like, the recipes it does contain are ones that everyone will want to make. I had some lobster tails in my freezer that needed to be used, and made Linda’s Simple Lobster Salad; the readily available ingredients added to the lobster made perfect lobster rolls and they were delicious for lunch with a bowl of soup. If you love lemon, you’ll love the Surprise Cookies; they are very easy drop cookies with a tangy lemon flavor. Although the recipe says it makes 18 cookies, I dropped the dough by rounded teaspoons exactly as instructed and got five dozen. Hopefully that will be corrected, but I’m not complaining – these cookies are addicting.

Meet Me in my Cape Cod Kitchen is a nice cookbook; it has great regional recipes that can be made and enjoyed anywhere. While many of the dishes are pictured, there isn’t a picture of every dish, and that is a bit disappointing. However, the book is well-organized, and the recipes are not your run-of-the-mill, everyday boring dishes; the author uses some imagination while presenting yummy and unique foods which will inspire everyone.
