Changing Seasons With Body Butters
Body Butters are great to have around at the change of any season. But .. what are they? They're combinations of ingredients that soothe, smooth and moisturize your skin. The ingredients play the main role in how this skin care product works. With the right proportions, butters are smooth whipped products that give your skin the feeling of being cared for ever so gently and without feeling greasy.
What's in a body butter that makes it great for your skin?
My favorite ingredients include cocoa, Shea and mango butters. The benefits of these butters come together to off set dryness, enhance smoothness and provide a softness that rivals the skin on a baby's bottom.
Jill Winger has a wonderful recipe that contains two of my favorite butters. I'll post it here.
Freshly Whipped Body Butter
You'll need:
1/4 cup Shea butter
1/4 cup cocoa butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
Double boiler/pot; small
10-20 drops essential oil (optional)
Hand/stand mixer
Jar
To Make:
Combine Shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil and sweet almond oil in a small pot or double boiler. Gently melt and stir over medium-low heat until mixture becomes liquid. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to partially set-up. Place it in the fridge or freezer to speed up the process, if desired. Once the mixture is partially set, add drops of essential oil if desired and whip with a hand mixer or stand mixer until the body butter is fluffy and stiff peaks have formed. Spoon into a jar and apply anywhere on your body or give it as a gift.
Notes:
It's really important to allow your body butter to set up, otherwise it won't whip. She's found that it's ready to whip when you can stick your finger in the middle and it holds the indentation. Sometimes we forget we've put it in the fridge or freezer, if this happens, allow it to thaw at room temperature until it reaches the proper consistency.
You can easily store your whipped body butter at room temperature, but if your house is very warm, it could melt. If this happens, you can simple re-whip it. You can find more recipes and ebooks from Jill at: https://www.theprairiehomestead.com/
