The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has millions of devotees, and Anthony LeDonne has compiled recipes that are mentioned in the series, or were popular during the time that the series takes place in Eat Like a Maisel: The Unofficial Cookbook for Fans of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

There is a section on cocktails, with LeDonne’s fun vignettes above the recipes. Next, is the section on appetizers which play a large part on the show. Some of the best are French Onion Dip (not even close to the dip made from onion soup mix), Gougères, and Chive and Cheddar Scones. The section on soups, sandwiches, and salads includes innovative and mouthwatering recipes that everyone will want to make. Side dishes include several kugel recipes, including a delicious Noodle Kugel “Bacon & Eggs” which is incredible. Blistered Green Beans and Butter Roasted Carrots, as well as Risotto with Tomatoes, Feta, and Paprika and an interesting Hangover Mac & Cheese.

Main dishes include a flavorful Jewish brisket and Schnitzel and Watercress. No Jewish cookbook would be complete without a primer on Roast Chicken and LeDonne’s instructions make it easy to prepare a perfect one. Then there are the desserts: A graham-cracker based cookie/candy called Zugnut is delicious, and the Chocolate Almond Cake is moist and luscious. Everyone loves rugelach, and LaDonne’s version of Brown Butter Rugelach is perfect.

The cookbook includes great Jewish recipes and non-Jewish recipes. Kreplach and chopped liver are two that are excellent.

This cookbook includes excellent photographs and easy-to-follow instructions to make picture-perfect dishes. LeDonne’s personality comes through in the vignettes that head each of the recipes. He makes it fun, and definitely adds something to how fans view the series. Since the series has so many food scenes, this book is very timely and helpful for those who want to recreate what their favorite characters are eating.

All told, fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will love this book, and others, who like to cook vintage recipes will also love it. It’s fun, and the recipes are excellent.
