What a fun book! Sweet Talk Cookies by bakery owner Hayley Callaway is the perfect cookbook for bakers who want to bake good cut out cookies and decorate them professionally. This excellent book shows readers in step-by-step photographs with easy-to-follow instructions all of the steps to decorate cookies. While this cookbook has a few recipes for cut out cookies (plain sugar, ginger, chocolate) and icing, the main focus of the book is creating innovative shapes and designs for every occasion and decorating them.

There are chapters on basics, as well as equipment needed, and techniques to make beautiful cookies. Then there are dozens of great designs and fun shapes. The Christmas chapter includes several cookies that Santa will love, as well as guests who visit during the season. Other holidays included are New Year’s, Easter, Halloween, and birthdays. There is a design for everyone here, and although Callaway’s instructions are great, most bakers will find that they need a bit of practice before their cookies are as perfect as hers. The techniques, once learned, can be applied to any shape of cookie needed for any occasion, so if you happen to be a cookie cutter collector, you can practice on your favorite cutouts.

This cookbook is perfect as a gift for a creative young baker, and it is a good addition to a comprehensive cookbook collection. Highly Recommended.
