Angela Marsons’ 15th installment in the Detective Kim Stone series, Stolen Ones, begins with the kidnapping of a young girl, Grace Lennard, who is taken from a children’s centre. Millionaire and philanthropist, Steven Harte, comes in to the station to talk to Kim, under the guise of giving her information on Melody Jones on the 25th anniversary of her kidnapping. Melody has never been found, and Kim is sure that Harte is the kidnapper and murderer, but he plays games with her and only gives her information that was previously in the press. Kim’s team goes to work uncovering previous similar cases, and digging up bones around the area. Kim has arrested Harte, but must come up with some real evidence before she must release him after 24 hours. Kim’s team is working almost around the clock, and to make matters worse, Alexandria Thorne, Kim’s nemesis, a psychopathic psychiatrist, who is in prison due to Kim, is trying to manipulate her and is up for parole. The pressure is on to keep Grace alive.

Marsons knows how to weave a story with plenty of subplots to keep readers on the edge. The scenarios take place in the UK, adding a unique setting, and the suspense starts to build at the beginning of the novel and doesn’t stop until the very end. The main characters are believable and well-developed – actually those readers who follow this series will look at them as old friends. The supporting characters are also believable, and are integral to the story.

Marsons’ Detective Kim Stone series is one that will grab readers; most will want to start at the beginning and read all of the installments.
