Fans of bestselling author, Carolyn Arnold will enjoy the fifth installment of the Detective Amanda Steele series, Her Frozen Cry, where Amanda and her partner, Trent, investigate the murder of a successful business woman who just happens to have been married to one of Amanda’s old friends, Tony Bishop. Even though Amanda has known Tony since high school, and is sure the Tony she knew wouldn’t commit a murder, she must be careful to go “by the book” to eliminate any special treatment of her old friend.

Arnold does a good job of weaving a believable story, and those who are familiar with the series will be able to relate to the characters who are well-developed. Amanda Steele, the protagonist, has had problems of her own in the past, including losing her husband and child in an auto accident by a drunk driver, and adopting a little girl whose parents were murdered in front of her. The characters are believable and most are likeable and seem like people readers know.

Arnold is an excellent storyteller and is able to present scenarios that are believable and have plenty of twists and turns. The suspense builds throughout, and the well-written story will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

This novel is good enough that readers will want to read the previous novels in the series, as well as the subsequent ones.
