Frankie Elkin’s hobby is finding forgotten missing persons. And in the third installment of the Frankie Elkin series, Still See You Everywhere talked her , by Lisa Gardner, she is flown to a prison to meet with Kaela Pierson, who is on death row for butchering 18 men and feeding their bodies to pigs. Keahi is strikingly beautiful, and is known in the press as “The Beautiful Butcher,” and has persuaded her lawyer to call Frankie to help her find her little sister, Leilani who was kidnapped, before she is executed. Keahi believes Leilani is with her ex-boyfriend, Sanders McManus, who is a billionaire tech mogul. Frankie finally agrees to find Leilani, and finds herself on an isolated island that McManus has purchased and is making into an island resort. Frankie works undercover with the only 12 staff members on the island.
Gardner has a distinct writing style, weaving her stories to keep readers on the edge while suspense builds. She definitely has a gift for storytelling, and this novel is well-written. Gardner has done her research, and readers will be able to picture the island in their minds and almost feel like they are there. Frankie, the protagonist, is well-developed, and likeable, albeit very different from most of us because she is comfortable not having a permanent home, and not needing many personal belongings. The main sub-characters are fascinating, especially Keahi, the serial killer, MacManus, and Leilani.
There are surprises throughout, but the dénouement doesn’t come till the very end, and most readers will find themselves staying up late to get to the end.
All told, this is another good Lisa Gardner novel worth reading.
