Fans of Nora Pennington, owner of the Miracle Springs Bookstore will welcome the sixth installment of The Secret, Book, and Stone Society series, Paper Cuts.

Nora and her friends are back, and when Nora befriends a woman with a son on the spectrum who has just moved into the area, and she is found murdered, she is made the prime suspect. The woman, it turns out, was the ex-wife of Nora’s first husband, and Nora’s past comes back to haunt her (as well as her unscrupulous ex-husband). Nora and her friends investigate, and there are a couple of additional murders, as well as a burglary in the home of the murdered woman where valuable books are stolen.

As usual, Adams does an excellent job of developing her characters. Readers of the previous novels will be familiar with them, but the author does a good job of introducing them in this book so it can actually be read as a standalone novel. Adams is also a talented storyteller; the story is easy to follow, and actually keeps readers on the edge. Nora’s romantic interest is the chief of police in Miracle Springs, so as a suspect, she doesn’t have the support she would have generally have had. There are several viable suspects

All told, this is an excellent cozy novel, and is probably the best of the series. This series is fun to read, and this novel has enough ups and downs to keep readers interested. Can’t wait for the next installment.
