While I generally use ground pork in this recipe, you can use ground beef, ground turkey or chicken, pork chops, beef steak, or chicken cut into strips, or even leftovers. Sometimes I combine ground pork and thin strips of sliced chicken or pork loin which I marinate in the sauce for 15 minutes or so. You can use your imagination.

8 Servings

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground pork, or substitute ground turkey or beef or sliced chicken or pork
1 large onion, chopped

Sauce:
2 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon Oriental sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely grated or minced
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 16 oz. package coleslaw mix, finely shredded
8 ounces bean sprouts, rinsed and drained

4 large green onions, sliced

4 cups hot cooked rice
3 1/2 ounces wonton strips

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet. Add the ground pork (or substitute) and chopped onions; stir over medium heat until the onions are soft and the meat is cooked through.
  2. Blend the sauce ingredients in a bullet blender or whisk until well mixed; pour over the meat mixture.
  3. Bring to a boil and add the coleslaw mix; stir-fry until the cabbage softens slightly.
  4. Stir in the bean sprouts and stir to heat through. Sprinkle with green onions, and serve over rice with a few wonton strips over the top.
