Whether or not you love to be in the kitchen, it’s nice to be able to make dishes that can be served in a different way – essentially repurposing leftovers. It helps when the original dish is mouthwatering Cook Once, Eat Twice: Time-Saving Recipes to Help You Get Ahead in the Kitchen, by Nadiya Hussain, who was a winner of the Great British Baking Show and prolific cookbook author. This cookbook doesn’t disappoint. The recipes are appealing to both kids and adults. The recipes definitely have British nuances (the author is from the UK), and are different enough to be interesting, but down-to-earth enough to be tempting to everyone.

The recipes follow traditional protocol as to how they are written, with the ingredient listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. They are easy to follow and easy enough to make that both beginning and advanced cooks will have no problem making them. The only problem with the ingredient lists is that where there is beef called for, the author doesn’t specify the type of beef. Readers won’t know whether to use chuck, tenderloin, steak, or other cuts. I want to make some kabobs, but don’t know what cut to use.

A positive aspect of this cookbook is that there are beautiful, professional photographs of the dishes. Readers will have a problem deciding which recipe to make first. It’s nice that the recipes can be served alone, and there are great ideas for using up the leftovers. This is a nice cookbook to have on your shelf.
