Most foodies think of Jacques Pépin as a celebrated classic chef, and that he is. But many of us don’t realize that he is multi-talented, and is also an artist. The Art of Jacques Pépin: A Life in Recipes and Paintings (Timeless Recipes and Signature Artworks of the Celebrated Chef), is both a cookbook that not only includes delicious recipes, but also beautiful artwork that makes for a nice coffee table book that is fun to read.

Jacques Pépin's artwork is colorful and positive, and makes the book a good read. There are dozens of very appealing recipes that almost everyone will want to make. Most are simple, which is the style of Jacques Pépin. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions which are very easy to follow. In addition, the author has added his comments at the beginning of each recipe which makes them meaningful.

The only thing missing from this cookbook is photographs of the finished dishes, which would have been nice. Obviously the focus here is the artwork, but it would have been nice to see the dishes as well. All told, this cookbook is excellent, and makes a good addition to a diverse cookbook shelf.
